A college of Chiefs from the Fako Chiefs’ Conference led by their emblematic President HRH Chief Ndike has blessed the Divisional Officer (DO) of Tiko Sub Division, Anuafor Cletus Asongwe, for what they say is a trailblazing study into the chieftaincy problems in the two first class Chieftaincy stools of the Bakweri people.

Unlike government administrators, traditional rulers are administrators of a different category. The government has labelled them as “Auxiliaries of the Administration”. This is a carryover from the colonial days when traditional rulers were expected to assist the colonial government in implementing policies and tax collection. However, in the face of the people, their traditional rulers represent something far higher than just administrators or auxiliaries of any system of governance.

With the ongoing crisis in the English-speaking regions of Cameroon, the high respect for traditional rulers has evidently been robbed.
Just like in most parts of Africa, in Cameroon, traditional rulers play vital roles in mediating between the people and the state. Besides enhancing national identity, they also resolve minor conflicts while providing an institutional safety-valve for inadequate state structure and regulation.
