Cameroon: Sport Minister’s Cook Justifies 85million FCFA Theft with Poor Salary Package

During the November 25th trial of the cook of Minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, the defendant Rim Benjamin, while acknowledging the act, put forward his salary of 35,000 FCFA which is less than the minimum wage, 36,270 FCFA as his justification, said the mentioned amount was far smaller than what he even stole.

Talking as she welcomes the call on the upcoming trial of perpetrators of the Ngarbuh massacre, Human Rights Watch researcher for Central Africa, focused in Cameroon, Ilaria Allegrozzi has said "We welcome the opening of this trial, considering that we have gone from outright denial to an investigation, to a presidential statement and now to a trial" According to her the act was an influence from, "individuals high in the chain of command". She was speaking to Agence France Presse - AFP

Cameroon: Two Detained Barristers Released with Suspended Sentences for Three Years

After spending several days in the Douala New-Bell Prison, yesterday, Monday November 23rd 2020, Barrister Tamfu Ngarka Triestel Richard and Maitre Armel Tchuenmegne Kenmegne were released following pronounced judgement by the presiding judge at Bonanjo court of First Instance in Doaula, Adama Musa Epse Ndomche. Though released, they are not completely acquitted because they were both handed six months suspended sentences for three years with each to pay a fine of CFCA100.000.

Cameroon: BAR Council Initiates Nationwide Strike

As from November 30th, 2020 Cameroonian lawyers will be embarking on a four day nationwide protest. This is as a result of the recent attacks meted on lawyers by administrative authorities, and security officials. The decision was taken in an extra-ordinary session held following the rise in brutality against law practitioners from security officials.
