On March 2nd 2020 Minister Mbella Mbella Lejeune of the Ministry of External Relations in Cameroon granted an audience to the Director General of the International Bamboo and Rattan Organization-INBAR, Ali Mchumo during which they reviewed cooperation ties between Cameroon and the organization.

Cameroon joined the INBAR in 2002 and has since worked and adopted measures on the sustainable use of bamboo in the country. The country has been acknowledged by the General Manager of INBAR as a very active member in the association and plays an important role in the sub region.

Mr. Ali revealed that his reason of visiting Cameroon’s Ministry of External Relation, was to look into what the country is doing relating to the development of bamboo and rattan. Equally to evaluate what is being done by authorities to promote bamboo and define certain areas of cooperation.

He however hinted that after his discussion with the Minister on what has thus far been established in the country, as Yaounde is host of the regional office for Central Africa, he was satisfied.

According to the Director General the headquarter agreement and inauguration of the edifice in December 2019 and other facilities plays a key role in the achievement of certain projects in Cameroon.

Cameroon as an active member of INBAR promotes local and regional bamboo and rattan projects like: capacity building, technology transfer and nursery establishment.
