Perpetrators of Elections Boycott are not up to 0.0075percent of the National Electorate –Minister Atanga Nji

It was chaired by the Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji, attended by the Secretary of State in Charge of the National Gendarmerie, the Delegate General for National Security, regional governors and other state officials.

The minister, while instructing the Governors, under the instructions of the Head of States, President Paul Biya, underlined that the state will respect any decision not to participate in elections but will sanction any attempt by boycotters to discourage citizens from voting.

Given the security context in the two English-speaking parts of the country, the Minister as government agent in the electoral process, took the initiative through administrative authorities to provide ELECAM with the necessary security for the elections.

According to the instructions of the President, the minister reiterated that elections must effectively hold in the Ten Regions; the Fifty-eight Divisions and 360 municipalities, across the country. He reaffirmed that all perpetrators of election boycott must do so with discretion as any attempt contrary to the law will be sanctioned accordingly.

On this note, the minister added that it is through elections that the citizens are given the opportunity to participate in the construction of the country and in the consolidation of democracy. He described election boycott as an anti-developmental, anti-constitutional and anti-republican practice for citizens.

On a special note, the Governors of the South West and North West Regions were called upon to apply the “robust security mechanism” as will be deployed; before, during and after the elections.

The minister expressed confidence in the governors with hopes that the available measures will be put in place to ensure a secure, transparent and hitch-free elections across the Ten Regions and especially in the crisis hit zones of the country.
