Cameroonians Constitute Higher Percentage of Rescued 95 Migrants in Libya

Reports show that in the incident where 15 lives were lost and 95 saved at sea in Libyan, Cameroonians, Sudanese, and Malians constituted the higher percentage.

Rescued migrants/Libya

The International Organization for Migration – IOM in Libya tweeted, “Tragic news from #Libya as 15 lives were lost at sea today, according to 95 survivors brought to shore by the coastguard.

The survivors suffered burns and hypothermia according to IOM. “IOM teams are now assisting survivors, many of whom are suffering from burns and hypothermia.” (A medical emergency that occurs when your body loses heat faster than it can produce heat, causing a dangerously low body temperature).

Many African migrants from Cameroon, Sudan and Mali

According to reports, among the 95 survivors of the incident were mostly African migrants from Cameroon, Sudan and Mali. They were rescued on Sunday, February 28th, 2021.

Many people have argued that it is the ravaging war in these three countries that is influencing youths in their numbers to engage on this illegal and dangerous migration.

Cameroonians Constitute Higher Percentage in Rescued 95% Migrants in Libya

Just this year 3,700 people including men, women, and even children have been rescued from this dangerous mission and brought back to Libya. They are reportedly kept in very bad detention facilities.
