Cameroon electric utility, ENEO in its recently published 2019 report has revealed that the Guider and Maroua will cost XAF14 billion.
The Guider and the Maroua solar plants are 10MW and 15MW respectively. The project was initiated in 2018.
Currently, reports show that the implementation of this solar plant construction project has been retarded by administrative problems despite the fact that the contract was signed, by ENEO, with a consortium of Scatec Solar, Izuba Energy, and Sphinx Energy.
Meantime, the government is yet to provide the winning consortium with some guarantees they requested before construction works can starts, reports from close sources state.
The Guider and Maroua plants will help diversify Cameroon’s energy mi, which is still largely dominated by thermal and hydroelectric energy as 25MW of solar energy is expected from this project.
In the Central African sub-region it is the first of such infrastructures, according to ENEO’s presentation.
