Customs officials in Cameroon’s economic Capital Douala, Yesterday December 17th, 2020 exposed over 40 tons of seized contraband product. The goods were highly made up of uncertified pharmaceuticals that were intercepted during attempt to snick them into the country.
Since the launching of the Stop Illicit Trade Mission (Halcomi) has been on systematic checks at all duty points to ensure that illicit trade is mitigated and probably stopped in Cameroon.
The presented stock included; 13 tons of pharmaceutical products, 7 tons of non-biodegradable plastic packaging, 37 boxes of cigarettes, 301 liters of hydrogen peroxide and 21,090 liters of hydrocarbon products.
The products were presented at the former Directorate General of Customs in Douala as a usual practice after seizures. Meanwhile, products such as hydrocarbons have already been transferred to the Ministry of Water and Energy (MINEE), a source hinted.
However, the MINEE boss Gaston Eloundou Essomba is expected to verify and approve the product for a probable destruction or sale.
Meanwhile, all other counterfeit products were due to be destroyed at the landfill of the Cameroon Hygiene and Sanitation Company at the Military Engineering district.
