The Divisional Officer for Wouri, Douala in the Littoral Region of Cameroon, Benjamin Mboutou, has forbidden the circulation of motorbikes in the Bonapriso and Bonanjo districts during late hours.
This is contained in a communiqué signed on Wednesday, December 16th, 2020. He warns anyone who attempts to default this order, promising them sanctions according to the law.
“Defaulters of this measure shall expose themselves to the sanctions provided for by the regulations in force, in particular the impoundment of motorbikes-taxis which would be in the aforementioned districts,” part of the press release reads.
The prefectural decision follows reports of attacks on expatriates and personalities in these two localities of the capital city.
The D.O’s note specifies that the prohibition will take effect as from 7:00pm to 6:00pm, daily.
This is not the first time bikes are been prohibited from the Douala I municipality. Some years ago, the city authorities banned the circulation of motorcycles in these two localities following the murder of a bike rider.
