“Dr. Christopher Fomunyoh of the National Democratic Institute (NDI) for International Affairs, headquartered in Washington DC, United States, could not adequately explain where the money came from when interviewed,” the report states.

He however explained that it was money he brought from NDI for him and his colleagues to spend during the election run-off election and since there was no second round, the sum was not spent.

The question of how he got the money out of the US into Ghana, according to Actu report, was yet another issue. The alleged had no document proving that he had permission to take the sum from US to Ghana.

Thanks to several appeals made by Dr. Fomunyoh to members of the current government the immigration and customs officials were forced to let him go.

Meanwhile, the Ghanaian law shows that every traveler must declare at the point of departure and arrival any sum of money carried should it be above10, 000 US dollars.

This is same for the United States as the money must be declared to Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Anyone who violates this law may be subject to civil or criminal penalties.
