During the closing ceremony of the second edition of the golf tournament called Open Golf Charity Elessa Lothin-Sen Foundation in Yaoundé on Saturday December 12th, 2020 that brought in 26 golfers from five countries in Africa, Zimbabwe's Mapwanya emerged overall winner.
The participating countries that competed in the professional, cadies and amateurs categories were Zimbabwe, Senegal, Nigeria, South Africa and Cameroon. The Saturday Open Golf Charity competition marked the closing of activities of the Elessa Lothin-Sen Foundation for 2020 but the tournament is one of the activities of the Foundation.
The event that took place at the Yaoundé Golf Club was organised by the Elessa Lothin-Sen Foundation and partners.
Though it was the first time that after six days of intense competition the Zimbabwean visitor emerged victorious in Cameroon, he has for three times been participating in golf competitions in the country.
It was his sixth trophy as Mapwanya brought home FCFA 2,600,000. He has had two in Congo, three in Nigeria. Senegal Samba Papi Niang was runner-up and took home a prize of 1,250,000.
Yaoundé Golf Club and Likomba Golf Club won 15.5 points and 11.5 points respectively in the inter-club competition. Befe Ngono Ayissi Jean Jules was the winner the cadies category and took home FCFA 300,000 as prize.
