Prime Minister Head of Government, Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute was on a working visit to the South West Region of Cameroon on December 16th, 2020 where he had an encounter with the Chiefs of the Region regarding, among other issues, the security problem in the areas and the taking to function of the newly elected Councilors.

While addressing the Chiefs, the PM noted their importance in working towards a peaceful community and Cameroon at large. Referring most especially to the persisting activities of armed groups in the locality he urged traditional rulers of the six departments in the crisis-hit region to keep an eye and control activities of separatist fighters.

Regarding the checking of separatist activities, the Head of Government proposed the revitalization of Council police in the communities given the recent targeting of traditional rulers by the gunmen.

While the chiefs are the heads of the communities, the PM reminded them of the need to work in synergy with their subjects to ensure the security of their people.

Within a month, two Chiefs were killed by unidentified gunmen while another died in captivity after he was abducted by suspected separatists alongside two of his peers. The two were later released in good health as confirmed by their families.

The Head of Government therefore used the opportunity to extended President Biya’s condolences to the Chiefs for the killing of their peer, Chief Emmanuel Ikome of Dipanda Mile 14 village on Sunday December 13th, 2020.
