Over 99 percent of the revenue target for the Far North Regional Custom Duty Office has been recovered this 2020. This is the revelation made by the Chief of the sector.
This is considered as record breaking since the outbreak of the Boko Haram insurgency in that part of Cameroon since 2009 which has paralyzed economic activities in the region.
The Cameroon Association of Investigative Journalists has commended this output with a prize awarded to the chief of the sector.
According to state media reports, there is a gradual return to normalcy in the Far North Region, which accounts for the resumption of custom services, notably in borer localities.
The Chief of Custom sector says this revenue amounts to 99.20 percent of the revenue recovery rate from November 30th, 2020, attributing the performance to reforms carried out by the Director General of Customs as well as collaborations with security and defense forces to combat illicit trade and fraudulent activities in the sector.
The recognition prize is therefore an encouragement for the custom service in the region to continue with their determination in eliminating loop holes to the success of their activities in the area.
