On December 14th, 2020 Cameroon’s Head of State Paul Biya has signed a decree setting up a new National Mining Corporation, SOCAMINE.
The company is charged with overseeing the development, exploitation and promotion of mineral potentials of the state as well as fostering mining activities and other related activities of the sector in Cameroon.
The decree equally outlines the objectives, organization, activities of the corporation and the recruitment of new personnel for the corporation.
SOCAMINE is exceptionally created to enhance the exploitation of hydrocarbons and quarry minerals as well as processing and packaging of mineral substances in the country for both the domestic and foreign markets.
The setting up of this new company follows the laying down of the Mining Craft Support and Program Framework, CAPAM whose activities are expected to be closed up latest six months after the effective establishment of SOCAMINE.
