Cameroon: Released CRM Women’s President says “the Battle Continues”

The National President of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement Women (WCRM) Bar Mispa Awasum Fri has been released. She got her freedom after spending days in the Kondengui Central Prison.

Released, CRM Women’s President says “the Battle Continues”

Following her post on Facebook, she was freed on Friday 27th, 2020 but details have not been given to why her freedom came this fast.

“I am free. Thank you. The fight continues,” she wrote.

Mrs. Awasum was arrested for leading the women on a protest against the “house arrest” of their party leader, Professor Maurice Kamto.

While in detention, she had equally written, asking the public to not worry about her but rather remain mobilized as they “…are on the right track.”

Confident of her move, she reiterated on why she led the protest. “I did what needed to be done to:

-The release of our leader, President Maurice KAMTO and all our political friends,

-Unconditional resolution of the crisis in the North West and South West,

-That we have a consensual electoral system.”

After questioning, she was found guilty of complicity in revolution and rebellion punishable under articles 74, 97, 114, and 157 of the penal code. She was then led to sign a pre-trial detention for a period of six months, renewable.

Mrs. Mispa was due to spend six months, renewable at the Yaounde Kondengui Central prison for complicity in group rebellion and revolution.
