Burkina Faso Presidential Elections: President Kaboré Could Serve a Second Term

Burkina Faso’s President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré has recorded a 57.87 percent victory in the first quarter of the ongoing presidential election.

These provisional results yet to be confirmed by the Constitutional Court, were proclaimed this Thursday, November 26th, 2020, at the end of a week which saw tensions increase over the announcement of the results.

The record places the ruling President 15 percent ahead of his main opponent Eddie Komboïgo and 12.46 percent ahead of Zéphirin Diabré, following results issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI).

If the game does not change in the hours ahead, the Burkinabè president who is running for a second presidential term in this election will be helming the country for a second mandate of five years.

His main competitors are veteran opposition Union for Progress and Change (UPC) leader Zéphirin Diabré, and candidate of the Congress for Democracy and Progress (CDP) of ousted former President Blaise Compaoré, Eddie Komboïgo.

Meantime, the results of the legislative elections are still awaited from the CENI in a week’s time from the day of elections.
