Recent recurring inundations in the Northern Region of Cameroon has left about 150 homes destroyed in localities like Madagascar, Kourwan, Maïnani, Marouaré, Babou, Kawadji.

About 150 Homes, 400 Households Affected by Inundations in Northern Region

The floods have affected over 400 households, chasing hundreds completely out of their homes to unguaranteed areas.

Though bidding farewell to rains as the dry season is already in, recurring precipitation in Kousseri is accountable for the excess water that has settled in the area. Locals say the rains caused the Logone River to overflow.

The inhabitants now use canoes to move around the area meanwhile, victims have only received some medical and social assistance from firefighters from Maroua.

So far, the victims of Kousseri are said to have received medico-social assistance from the men of the 40th group of firefighters of Maroua.

According to local sources, a similar phenomenon was experienced in 1988 and 2012. This raises therefore, the question to how long the people will continue to suffer from these floods.

The problem which is an annual community issue is a life threat for these people and need sustainable solution not cosmetic and temporal assistance.
