The women, half naked and some dressed in black took to the streets calling for the immediate release of the leader of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement Maurice (CRM), Kamto who has remained under house arrest since September 20th, 2020.

According to reports, they were led by Awasum Mispa, National Coordinator of the MRC Women’s Wing.

The disgruntled women marched towards Kamto’s Yaounde residence in Santa Barbara chanting songs including “Release Kamto! Release Kamto!”

According to the government, the house arrest is punishment on the opposition leader for fueling “insurrection” to “destabilize” the one, united, democratic and indivisible nation.

It should be recalled that last month, an attempt by some women and members of the CRM party to visit Maurice Kamto at his residence was interrupted by security forces on guard at the residence.

Since the September 22nd protest, CRM says hundreds of the party supporters are still under detention after government forces cracked down on the protesters, arresting many.

The opposition leader was placed under house arrest by government forces for organizing a nationwide protest with aim of ousting President Paul Biya from Power. The protest was organized for September 22nd, 2020 and was prompted by the President’s announcement of first-ever regional elections in the country.

Prof. Kamto maintained that no elections can hold in the country with an ongoing arm conflict in the two English-speaking regions of the country and without a revision of the electoral code which he thinks had been drafted to favor the ruling government.
