During the meeting of the interstate commission in charge of the Chollet Hydroelectricity Dam project, it was revealed that the preliminary studies for the construction have been scheduled for Q1-2021.
The meeting was held via videoconference on October 26th, 2020.
The energy infrastructure estimated to cost between XAF350 billion and XAF670 billion depending on the development option chosen by the builder will be built over the Dja River.
The Dja River is a water border between Cameroon and Congo. The energy produced by the dam will be supplied to the two countries that own the project. However, neighboring countries like the Central African Republic and Gabon will also benefit from the project.
The said project entails the construction of two electricity transportation lines between Cameroon and Congo.
On August 1 during a ministers' meeting, which succeeded an experts' meeting of the inter-state follow-up committee of the Chollet hydroelectricity development project and associated electricity transmission lines, five important texts were adopted.
Preliminary design outline, detailed project proposal, tender documents, tender pre-qualification conditions as well as environmental and social impact assessment, were terms of references.
