The Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi has been on a four-day working visit on road maintenance works in the country.

The visit started yesterday, Tuesday October 20th, 2020 with the inspection of works at the Yaounde-Douala stretch of road.

Today, October 21st is day 2 of the minister’s working visit which is taking place at the Grand Zambi-Kribi in the Ocean Division of the South Region. From there, the minister proceeded to Olama-Kribi in the South West Region of Cameroon.

Yesterday, October 20th, 2020, the Minister inspected construction works along the Yaounde-Douala stretch of the national road N# 3. After visiting this stretch, it was revealed that over 130 potholes on the first 46kms were filled while road sites were also cleared to increase visibility of vehicles plying the road.

The minister made countless stops along the road as he inspected all possible hitches found on the stretch. The inspection constituted of the quality of the roads as well as the roadside vegetation management which was evaluated by engineers of the Ministry of Public works.

Under the program the engineers call “Direct Labor” they filled up potholes as they went through while also clearing roadsides.

As explained by engineer Nfor Cyprian Ngenge, the roadside clearing constituted of 11 different tasks including; cleaning of gutters, felling of trees or shaping of broad branches, pruning of trees among other finishing works.

Not without difficulties, the minister was briefed by the engineers on a number of achievements made so far and the barriers encountered for these three months job.

The engineers are expected to repair the road from Yaounde to the Ndope Bridge, a distance of about 105kms. Mr. Ngenge says they have so far completed close to 127 potholes within 46kms.
