Cameroon-NW: CEIC Blames Armed Groups for the Disappearance of over 10 Teachers since October 5th, 2020

Armed groups operating in the North West region of Cameroon have been blamed for the disappearance of over 10 teachers since October 5th, that school resumed in some parts of the region.  Chayi Sungha, steward at GBHS Baba1 is a victim.

According to Collective of Indignant Teachers of Cameroon or Collectif des enseignants indignés - CEIC in French, about ten teaching staff are reported to have gone missing since October 5th in the North West-NW region of Cameroon.

Seydou Mbangyah, headmaster of the Baba1 Bilingual High School in Ngoketunjia, Chayi Sungha, steward at GBHS Baba1 and Ntam Yuh, headmaster at Bambui high school in the Mezam are amongst the missing teachers, according to CEIC.

It should be noted that since the outbreak of the crisis in 2016, several teachers have been attacked and many killed for not respecting either separatists’ enforced law or the Cameroon Military laws. Gunmen have constantly been attacking teachers accusing them of not observing the separatist-imposed school boycott.

Thousands of pupil, students, and teachers in the restive North West and South West regions of Cameroon have not known what a class room looks like since the war started. This explains mass exodus of children from these regions to other towns across Cameroon for educational purpose.

Teachers needed for emergence to be realized-Cameroon

The towns of Douala and Yaoundé are the main hosts for the Internally Displaced Persons-IDP’s most especially school children who want to continue with studies and teachers who need to a living.
