Cameroon’s Minister of Territorial Administration Paul Atanga Nji has reiterated his warnings against persons preparing to stage a protest on September 22nd, 2020 as called by the National leader of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (CRM) Prof. Maurice Kamto.

The minister stressed on his point in a letter addressed to the Governors of the Littoral, Centre and West Regions in which he says such individuals or group of persons will meet fierce resistance from the forces of law and order in place.

The MINAT Boss in the letter has called on the officials to put in place strict surveillance measures on members of the CRM in particular so as to prevent them from “disturbing public order” on the said day as they plan to disrupt the upcoming Regional Elections.

Basing part of his justification for this order on the ranging coronavirus health crisis in the country, Minister Atanga Nji said the three mentioned regions are the most affected by the virus and any attempt to stage a public event would threaten the health and lives of the population.

Notwithstanding, should CRM supporters carry on with their protest in defiance of this ban on public gatherings, these governors will arrest all those leading the protest as well as those who called for the protests either in writing or during televised debates.

Kamto calls for electoral protest

On Monday August 24th, 2020 Prof Maurice Kamto discloses plans of his political party to launch a “gigantic campaign” calling for the stepping down of the Head of State, President Paul Biya in case the latter convenes the electorate ahead of regional elections without amending the electoral system and resolving the ongoing Anglophone crisis.

Since this announcement, there has been fear of uncertainty as public opinion seems divided with those for and others against the protest ranting on social media platforms.

Recent reports from Douala, Littoral Region shows that some bike men were abducted by unidentified gunmen over the weekend for attempting signs of the planed protest.

Meanwhile, sources say Gendarmerie, Police and Water Canons were deployed on Sunday morning in Makepe, Douala V after getting news that some CRM party militants were planning a gathering.
