However, Cameroon and the other 46 countries were called upon to remain aware and on guard against it, given that the virus still exists in some countries of the world and that the probability of re-contracting it is half.

In Cameroon, the government has thus decided to continue with vaccination against the virus in a bid to maintain its safety as health official have revealed that preparations are underway to deploy teams in some regions for a national vaccination campaign against poliomyelitis.

The campaign is scheduled to run from September 18th to 20th, 2020 and will continue from October 9th to 11th, 2020, in some 117 health districts in the Adamawa, Center, East, Far North, Littoral and the North Regions of the Cameroon.

According to the Head of the vaccination campaign Rose Leke, the Circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 is still present in some 16 countries, presenting the risk of it spread to other African countries.

The campaign has targeted health facilities where children aged 0 to 23 months will continue to receive oral polio vaccine (Vpo) and injectable polio vaccine (IPV) according to the vaccination schedule given that it only affects children who are insufficiently vaccinated.
