In Cameroon, Afriland First Bank has introduced automated deposit terminals for its clients so as to save time and shorten long queues before tellers. But to some people the move is prejudicial to the job of bank tellers.

Clients of this financial institution can now perform this operation via the deposit terminal instead of queuing before a traditional teller for their cash deposit, according to the bank.

By automated deposit terminals, all the clients need to do it to sort their deposits into notes of XAF5, 000 and XAF10, 000 while following instructions from the terminal.

The user will receive a receipt proving that the deposit is successful once the terminal has validated the transaction.

However, the terminal will require them to provide information like paying party’s name, the origin of the funds-savings, salaries etc, name of the depositor, as well as the sum to be deposited into the account stated.

Meanwhile, the Bank believes it will save time and shorten the long queues before tellers but some people think that these machines are prejudicial to the job of the bank teller.

Automated teller machines are electronic banking outlets that allow people to complete transactions without going into a branch of their bank. Some are simple cash dispensers while others allow a variety of transactions such as check deposits, balance transfers, and bill payments.

A bank teller is an employee of a bank who deals directly with customers. In some places, this employee is known as a cashier or customer representative.
