Report by AFP shows that appointed experts by Mali’s military junta have proposed a two-year transitional government where the president will be chosen by the army. Though the Junta wants to run it over 2 years, 15-nation Economic Community of West African States has insisted that within 12 months it should hand over.

 Like the experts, Mahmoud Dicko, has equally urged for a swift return to civilian rule in Mali.

According to AFP the document has been submitted to hundreds of participants at a three-day forum in Bamako. The objective of the forum was to map a way forward for Mali following the ousting of Keita.

The president would be a “civil or military personality”, the said document has stated.

“But many participants at the forum are divided over issues such as how long a transition government should last, and what role the army should play.” Punch has reported.

It should be recalled that after the coup that ousted Keita, the junta, Promised to restore civilian government and organize elections on a reasonable time.

This forum is the second round of discussions between these young officers who overthrew President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita and civilian representatives.
