One week after the death of George Floyd, the Roman Catholic Overseer Pope Francis has described the incident as ‘disturbing’ and ‘tragic’, condemning the act and calling for the respect of human life. It was during his Mid-day Angelus Prayer on Wednesday June, 3rd, 2020 at the Vatican.

Pope Francis condemn killing of George

“Dear brothers and sisters in the United States, I have witnessed with great concern the disturbing social unrest in your nation in these past days, following the tragic death of Mr. George Floyd,” the Pope said.

“My friends, we cannot tolerate or turn a blind eye to racism and exclusion in any form and yet claim to defend the sacredness of every human life…At the same time, we have to recognize that the violence of recent nights is self-destructive and self-defeating,” Pope Francis said, adding that “Nothing is gained by violence and so much is lost.”

Pope Francis condems racism

While the CNN Senior Vatican Analyst John Allen said it is “relatively rare” for the Pope to mention a specific person by name, he pointed out that this was a special appeal by the Papal for a stop to racism.
