Cameroon Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji has ordered Orange and MTN mobile telephone networks to Shutdown Prof. Maurice Kamto’s Mobile Money Solidarity fund accounts. The information was revealed in two separate letters sent by the minister to the companies on Monday April 27th, 2020.
In the letters, Minister Paul Atanga Nji reiterated that the Survie-Cameroon-Survival initiative created by Kamto is illegal and has not been authorized by MINAT which is the supervisory authority of political parties and associations.
Given that this initiative had also been made open for foreign well wishers, the Minister maintained that it is also illegal for political parties to receive external funding.
Some few weeks back, Minister Paul Atanga Nji had ask the Minister of Finance to order for the closure of a similar account that was opened in Afriland First Bank and for the funds to be freeze. This, he said should be done while he orders for investigation on the said initiative by the Financial Crimes Investigation Agency (ANIFF).
This time, the two mobile communication companies have been warned by the Minister that should they fail to close these accounts, they will be considered as accomplices to the illegal act of Prof. Maurice Kamto.
