Cameroon: North West Region Join COVID-19 Train with First Case

The Governor of North West Region, Adolf Lele L’Afrique, who doubles as president of the regional committee in the fight against coronavirus has announced that Bamenda has recorded it first COVID-19 case.

Following the unfortunate outcome, there was an evaluation meeting on April 6th , 2020 , during which measures were taken to prevent further spread in the region.

Primarily, the prevention measures which were put in place by the World Health Organization-WHO and the government of Cameroon will be reinforced and intensified and must be indiscriminately respected by all.

There will equally be the disinfection of all public transport vehicles and the restricted number of passengers will be respected or occupants face the consequences

For the main time, the regional governor has also prohibited the consumption of drinks in and out of drinking spots.

There is an ongoing organization of a workshop for media men and women of the region on how to report on the preventive measures.

The governor has however warned his population on the circulation of fake disinfectants, low quality and unreliable face masks as well as sanitizers. He has called on everyone to refer health experts for provision linked to the fight against this killer virus.

Meanwhile sources revealed that the carrier, who is a woman, came back from Kenya and while in Douala, she escaped the quarantine. He then moved to Bamenda through Bengwi in Momo Division, where she took a motorbike for her native home in Andek, Ngie village.


Given the number of people she has been in contact during and after the journey, there is fear that many have been infected. Some critics are urging the governor to launch a search of those who has been in contact with her, for quarantine and possible treatment.
